Napoleon Rogue Grill Review: Features, Performance, and Buying Guide

The Napoleon Rogue 425 SIB is a compact four-burner gas grill made in Canada. Its main cooking area features three 12,000 BTU burners (36,000 BTU total) arranged front-to-back and equipped with the JETFIRETM ignition system, while a 9,000 BTU SIZZLE ZONETM infrared side burner provides high-heat searing and versatile side-burner use.

The JETFIRETM ignition lights by pressing the control valve in as you rotate it. Each main burner also includes a Cross Light bracket, which helps ensure ignition if an igniter fails and reduces the chance of unburned gas accumulation during start-up.

The SIZZLE ZONETM infrared side burner ignites with a battery-operated push button on the control panel. The side shelf and side burner include integrated tool hooks and fold down to reduce the grill’s footprint for storage. The side burner can function as a regular burner as long as no more than about 75% of the burner surface is covered to avoid overheating, per Napoleon customer service.

Build quality is a strong point for Napoleon, and the Rogue 425 SIB reflects that with stainless steel main burners, sear plates, and a 9mm stainless steel wave cooking grate. The SIZZLE ZONETM features a cast-iron grate that excels at heat retention for searing but also performs as a conventional side burner when needed.

Note: Napoleon customer service advises not to cover more than 75% of the side burner surface when using it as a standard burner to prevent overheating.

The grill body uses porcelain-coated steel and includes a removable condiment caddy that can be mounted on either side of the cabinet, adding convenience for prep and storage.

What We Liked About the Napoleon Rogue 425

The Rogue 425 SIB delivers strong value with thoughtful design and quality materials for its price range. Highlights include:

Packaging: The grill ships in durable, well-designed packaging that protects components and simplifies assembly.

Consistent fasteners: Assembly is simplified by the use of the same size hex-head machine screw throughout. One wrench and a flat-head screwdriver are usually sufficient, and clearly labeled spare fasteners are included.

Cross light brackets: These brackets enhance safety and reliability with JETFIRETM ignition by helping ensure burners ignite properly before significant unburned gas can accumulate.

Napoleon Rogue Grill solid steel cooking grates

9mm stainless steel wave grate: The heavy stainless-steel grate provides excellent cooking performance and is easier to clean because it lacks cross-support bars. Since the Rogue’s burners are not designed to create extreme localized heat, the simpler grate design is effective and low-maintenance.

Areas for Improvement

SIZZLE ZONETM grate material: The cast-iron grate retains heat exceptionally well for searing, but that same retention can make it easy to overcook foods that contact the grate, especially for less experienced users. A thinner stainless-steel grate might provide a more balanced heat transfer for everyday use. The side burner can also be prone to flare-ups with fattier cuts of meat.

The folding side shelf and burner are convenient for storage, but repeated folding can strain the gas feed line. The grommet protecting the gas line where it passes through the cabinet may begin to displace if the side burner is regularly folded down. For safety, inspect the gas feed before each use if you fold the side burner frequently.

Note: If you routinely fold the side burner down, check the gas feed line and grommet for displacement before operating the grill.

Propane tank stability ring: The ring that slips over the propane cylinder collar helps keep the tank stable but feels somewhat flimsy. An improved stability solution and a fuel-level indicator would be welcome upgrades found on some competing grills in this price range.

Temperature consistency: Overall temperatures are stable side-to-side, but we observed roughly a 50°F difference from the front to the back of the cooking area, with the rear running hotter. This may require slight repositioning of food or burner adjustments for precise cooking.

*Temperature testing was performed using a FireBoard electronic thermometer.

Who Should Consider the Rogue 425

The Napoleon Rogue 425 SIB suits buyers seeking an attractive, well-built compact gas grill at a reasonable price. It works well for patio or deck cooking and handles a variety of foods with reliable results. At the time of our review the Rogue 425 SIB was listed by Napoleon at $999.99.

Final Thoughts

The Napoleon Rogue 425 SIB is a solid option in the compact gas-grill category. Its strong construction, thoughtful assembly features, and the high-heat SIZZLE ZONETM make it a versatile choice. The few drawbacks—side-burner grate heat retention, the fold-down side-burner stress on the gas line, and modest front-to-back temperature variation—are manageable and do not overshadow the grill’s overall value. Napoleon customer service was responsive and helpful when we had questions.
