Weekend Adventure Ideas for Local Explorers

Hi friends! How was your weekend? Matt and I stayed in DC and enjoyed a relaxing couple of days with beautiful weather and lots of fresh air.

On Saturday morning we did one of our favorite running boot-camp workouts. We planned a roughly 3-mile out-and-back route with mini boot-camp stops at mile 1, mile 1.5 (the turnaround), and mile 2, plus a final boot-camp at the end.

I designed the mini boot-camps at miles 1 and 2, and Matt led the one at the turnaround and the grand finale. Splitting the duties kept it fun and creative.

My stops included dips, push-ups, handstand walks, plank holds with opposite knee-to-elbow touches, eagle abs, supermans for lower-back strengthening, and lateral leg exercises like leg lifts.

Matt’s stations featured high-knee tucks, jumping jacks, sprinting in place, and leg throw-downs — all great cardio bursts.

We ran a super hilly route and tried to keep a brisk pace. Matt’s been playing a lot of soccer and is really fast, and my track workouts helped me keep up. I was proud of our pace, especially given the hills.

After our workout, I spent the rest of Saturday catching up with old friends. My high-school best friend Jenny was visiting, and we went wedding-dress shopping with our friend Lara, who’s getting married in July. Jenny’s sister Gretchen joined us as well.

Highlights included revisiting the shop where I bought my own wedding dress, seeing Lara try on many beautiful gowns, and grabbing baked treats and coffee at a Georgetown café after visiting a few bridal boutiques. It was a lovely day with the girls.

Sunday was another beautiful day. After sleeping in and enjoying coffee, Matt and I played some tennis. He’s improving quickly, and it’s been fun getting out on the court together now that the weather is so nice.

After tennis we grabbed lunch at Sweetgreen and then ran errands and tidied up around the house for the rest of the afternoon.

In the evening I went to a haunted-house event with my friend Ashley. It was a great experience and supported a local nonprofit that helps people with disabilities. It made me even more excited for Halloween.

The weather today is gorgeous and a little distracting, but I’ll sneak in a walking break later. Hope you have a great day!

Are you a haunted-house fan? What’s the best one you’ve visited? One of my favorites in the area is Markoff’s Haunted Forest.
