Coconut water has become a popular natural hydrator. Distinct from coconut milk or cream (which are made from the white meat of a mature coconut), coconut water is the clear liquid found inside young coconuts. It’s a naturally refreshing beverage rich in electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium, making it an excellent option for rehydration without added sugars, artificial flavors, or colorings.
Because coconut water supplies electrolytes with lower sodium and higher potassium than many sports drinks, it’s often promoted as a healthier alternative for replenishing fluids after exercise. Potassium supports normal blood pressure, may lower the risk of recurrent kidney stones, and contributes to bone health.
Coconut water works well in smoothies for a lighter, more hydrating texture. Below is a quick tropical smoothie recipe that combines mango, pineapple and coconut water for a bright, revitalizing drink.
